Founder’s Vision and Philosophy
Sherri Gangitano founded SVCA in January 2021 with a “never quit” attitude, launching the nonprofit virtually during the pandemic—a major achievement that continues to thrive. As a disabled, divorced mother of four, Sherri brings decades of hands-on experience helping families who are going through tough times. Her own life challenges have given her deep empathy and a strong understanding of what it takes to overcome hardship. She has also shown long-term commitment to her community by volunteering with many local organizations, always working to lift others up and make a lasting difference.
Sherri’s philosophy for SVCA is simple: treat every neighbor in crisis with respect, compassion, and dignity. By igniting hope and opening doors to a better future, she empowers individuals to regain stability and work toward independence. SVCA remains committed to empowering voices and strengthening the community—one neighbor at a time.

Launching our nonprofit during the pandemic was challenging, but we’ve made a significant impact despite being part-time, low-budget, all-volunteer, and virtual. We’ve guided hundreds through rent assistance, distributed essentials with Walmart and neighbor2neighbor, and partnered with other organizations to deliver critical resources.

Our unique model has earned a reputation for truly understanding our community and finding ways to help, no matter the crisis. As one of the few organizations focused specifically on our area, we have the opportunity to grow in whatever direction is needed. We also have the chance to share our approach with other organizations, encouraging them to focus on the real needs of our neighbors instead of the typical client model.
